Two of Shakespeare's classic plays --"The Taming of the Shrew" and "The Merchant of Venice" -- will highlight the Great River Shakespeare Festival through July 27 at Winona State University in Winona, Minn. Showtimes vary on Tuesdays through Sundays (no show this Tuesday). Concerts and conversations with company members or creative leaders precede and follow some shows. Voyageurs wildlife International Falls, Minn.

Prairie Island powwow Welch, Minn.

American Indians from around the United States and Canada will join the Prairie Island Indians in honoring their traditions and heritage during the Dakota Wacipi July 11-12 in Welch, Minn. The free event takes place at the Prairie Island powwow grounds near Treasure Island Resort and Casino, and features traditional dancing, drumming, singing, art, handmade jewelry, tools and food.
