Neil Diamond weds 'girl of my dreams'

Neil Diamond and his manager, Katie McNeil, wed Saturday in Los Angeles, the star's representative told People magazine. The 71-year-old star, known for such hits as "Sweet Caroline" and "Cherry, Cherry," announced his engagement on Twitter last September. "Good news coming from sunny LA/ and you're the first I want to tell/ Katie & I just got engaged/ and I hope you wish us well. Neil," the musician tweeted. The same day, Diamond tweeted a picture of 42-year-old McNeil and wrote, "I'd like you to meet Katie. I'm lovestruck. I took this photo in London last month. Neil."

On Dec. 30, 2011, Diamond tweeted, "What a year! R&R Hall of Fame, Kennedy Ctr Honor, Billboard Icon Award, a Grammy nom., and best of all the hand of the girl of my dreams!" This is McNeil's first marriage.

Diamond has been married twice before. In 1963, he wed his high school sweetheart Jaye Posner, with whom he has two daughters. The couple divorced in 1969, and in December of that year, Diamond married Marcia Murphey, a production assistant, with whom he has two sons. Diamond and Murphey divorced in 1995.

Chaz honored with GLAAD awards

Chaz Bono, the first-ever transgender contestant on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," picked up a pair of trophies at the GLAAD Media Awards. The 43-year-old transgender activist and author was honored with the outstanding documentary prize and Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 23rd annual Media Awards for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Bono won along with directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato for "Becoming Chaz," the OWN documentary that chronicled his gender transition. The Kolzak Award is given to a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender member of the entertainment community. Past winners have included Ellen DeGeneres, Rufus Wainwright, Wanda Sykes, John Waters and Melissa Etheridge.

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb has advanced colorectal cancer and remains in intensive care in a London hospital after waking from a coma, his doctor said Sunday. Dr. Andrew Thillainayagam said Gibb had recently caught pneumonia because he was weakened from chemotherapy and two operations. The 62-year-old singer fell into a coma last week. The doctor said that three days ago he warned Gibb's family that he may not wake up. Instead, Gibb is now fully conscious and able to speak.

Commanders at Fork Knox, Ky., have decided to cancel rocker Ted Nugent's performance June 23 at the Army base. A Facebook statement cited comments Nugent made at the National Rifle Association convention about President Obama. The concert is part of the "Midwest Rock n' Roll Express" tour featuring Nugent, REO Speedwagon and Styx.
