Fed Chairman makes his first speech in Minnesota

The economy and jobs get a double dose of attention today.

About 800 people are expected for today's lunchtime speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. The downtown Minneapolis event will be covered heavily by local and national media. Star Tribune colleague Jennifer Bjorhus will be covering the event. I'll be there, too, with live Twitter feeds @ewieffering.

Bernanke's speech will serve as a prelude of sorts to tonight's address by President Obama. He is expected to propose a combination of tax cuts and stimulus spending designed to get some of the 14 million unemployed Americans back to work.
