Incontext: Monica Rudquist
Closing Sunday: Known for her black-and-white pottery, Monica Rudquist takes her functional forms (plates, bowls) into conceptual territory in this solo show. Beginning with a basic wheel-thrown form, she alters the shapes by folding, cutting and collaging. Recombined, their curvaceous parts have the poetic look of flower petals, ruffles, shells, leaves, crustaceans and even sea foam curling on a beach. The show's centerpiece is "Intersection," a 24-foot-long installation of hundreds of pristine fragments that ebb and flow across the wall as a lyrical, free-form abstraction.
