Prints on Ice: The 26th Cooperative Exhibition

Opening Friday: Recent art school grads, well-established art teachers and other talents all flock to Highpoint Center for Printmaking to use its top-quality facilities as members of the Highpoint Cooperative. The co-op's winter show is always a treat with its mix of sophisticated media — lithography, relief, intaglio, screenprinting, monotype and collograph — plus a wild variety of subjects, styles and attitudes, from nearly abstract landscapes to humorous vignettes, keenly observed still lifes, psychological dramas and deftly designed compositions like Katy Collier's woodcut "The Forest and the Lake," shown here. More than 75 pieces by 36 artists were chosen for the show by a curatorial committee. Savvy shoppers know that "Prints on Ice" is one of the metro area's smartest sources of accessibly priced original art, especially on opening night when everything is discounted by 20 percent. (Opening reception 6:30-9 p.m. Fri. Free. Exhibit open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri., noon-4 p.m. Sat. through Jan. 17. Highpoint Center for Printmaking, 912 W. Lake St., Mpls. 612-871-1326 or www.highpointprintmaking.org) Mary Abbe
