For more than 60 years, Paris-born photographer Elliott Erwitt has been at the top of his game, photographing the famous (Marilyn Monroe) and the unknown (Arkansas debutantes) in cities and towns worldwide. A longtime affiliate of the Magnum photo agency, he has been celebrated in solo shows at the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago and in more than 20 books. Still a dynamo at 82, he flew to Minneapolis last year to photograph playwright Tony Kushner at work at the Guthrie Theater. While in town he dropped by Weinstein Gallery, struck up a friendship with gallery owner Martin Weinstein, and the two hatched a new show opening Friday night. Erwitt will be there along with every photographer in the Twin Cities. (Reception 6-8:30 p.m. Fri., free. Weinstein Gallery, 908 W. 46th St., Mpls. Through Jan. 9. 612-822-1722 or www.weinstein-gallery.com)
