Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald Jr. moves up to No. 2 in NFL career receiving yards

The catch that Larry Fitzgerald Jr. secured late in Sunday's game at Kansas City did nothing to change the outcome: another loss for Arizona in a season full of them.

It was hardly meaningless to the veteran wide receiver.

The catch moved him past Terrell Owens into second on the NFL's career reception yardage list. He ended the 26-14 loss with six catches for 50 yards, giving him 15,952 yards — behind only Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

"It happens to be Terrell Owens and I'm pretty close with T.O. His friendship and my relationship with him is invaluable to me," Fitzgerald said. "He means a great deal to me, and to be mentioned in the same breath with him means a lot to me."

Fitzgerald has pieced together one of the NFL's finest careers relatively quietly, with some of his best seasons coming in the Cardinals' worst years. The 35-year-old Holy Angels product has had at least 100 receptions each of the past three seasons, and five times in his career, while piling up nine seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving.

"It's frustrating that it comes in another loss," he said, "but I think, offensively, we're on the field a lot more. Would have loved to have more points, but it's another step in the right direction."

Fitzgerald needs eight more catches to pass Rice (1,281 with San Francisco) for the most in NFL history with one team.

Injury update

• Rams receiver Cooper Kupp went down in the fourth quarter clutching his left knee, which sidelined him earlier this season. He eventually walked off the field.

• The Green Bay defense lost two starters when safety Kentrell Brice hurt an ankle and linebacker Nick Perry limped off because of a knee injury. They had been on the injury report for different reasons.

• Miami running back Kenyan Drake suffered a knee injury, and two receivers were hurt: Davante Parker (shoulder) and Jakeem Grant (leg).

• Detroit tight end Michael Roberts suffered a shoulder injury and receiver Marvin Jones Jr. hurt a knee.

Etc.

• Indianapolis honored the NFL's new career scoring leader, 45-year-old kicker Adam Vinatieri, with a brief highlight film and the distinction of being the last Colts starter introduced to the crowd, which roared.

• The abused hybrid grass of Mexico City's Azteca Stadium is generating concerns for its poor condition a week before the Rams and Chiefs play there.
