Area small college football: Winona State stuns MSU Mankato on last-second field goal

Carter McCauley's 29-yard field goal as time expired lifted Winona State to a 34-31 victory over Minnesota State Mankato in an NSIC North Division game on Saturday in Winona, Minn.

The Warriors (4-1, 1-0 NSIC North) had tied the score with 2 minutes, 40 seconds remaining on Jack Nelson's 5-yard pass to Cameron Johnson.

The Warriors got the ball back with 1:17 left after stopping the Mavericks, ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, on downs.

Nelson completed passes of 26 and 22 yards to Johnson to set up the winning field goal. Nelson passed for 357 yards and four touchdowns.

Nick Pieruccini passed for 228 yards and four TDs for the Mavericks (3-2, 0-1).

Bemidji State 52, Mary 3: Gena Adams rushed for 179 yards and two TDs and Jordan Hein threw two TD passes and rushed for 101 yards and a TD as the Beavers rolled to victory in Bismarck, N.D.

Minn. Duluth 42, MSU Moorhead 34: The Bulldogs built a 35-10 in the first half and then held off the Dragons for their 19th consecutive home victory. Drew Bauer passed for 232 yards and four TDs for the Bulldogs (4-1, 1-0 NSIC North).

St. Cloud State 28, Minn.-Crookston 7: Nate Meyer passed for 248 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Huskies (2-3, 1-0 NSIC North) earned the victory. Jameson Parsons caught seven passes for 125 yards and Jaden Huff rushed for 87 yards and a TD for the Huskies.

SW Minnesota State 59, Upper Iowa 41: Blake Gimbel passed for 436 yards and three TDs and Isley Carrington rushed for 181 yards and three TDs to help the host Mustangs outlast the Peacocks. Gimbel completed 42 of 53 passes as the Mustangs gained 715 yards.

Wayne State 45, Concordia (St. Paul) 10: Zach Osborn threw four TD passes to lead the Wildcats (3-2, 1-0 NSIC South) past the Golden Bears (2-3, 0-1) in St. Paul.

Sioux Falls 35, Augustana 20: Max Mickey rushed for 140 yards and two TDs and Luke Papilion passed for 280 yards and two TDs, leading the visiting Cougars past their crosstown rival.

MacMurray 31, Minn.-Morris 10: MacMurray built a 28-0 halftime lead en route to a victory over the Cougars in Jacksonville, Ill. Justin Masloski rushed for 98 yards and a TD for the Cougars.

Northwestern 25, Iowa Wesleyan 18: Kyle Anenson rushed for 96 yards and two TDs to help the Eagles (5-0, 4-0 UMAC) rallied from a 15-7 halftime deficit for the victory in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

St. Scholastica 62, Martin Luther 19: Kyle Stepka passed for 314 yards and five TDs, leading the Saints past the Knights in New Ulm.

Macalester 16, Ripon 8: Ben Haltmaier kicked three field goals and Cody Petrich rushed for a TD to lead the Scots (4-1, 3-0 Midwest) to victory in Ripon, Wis.
