Wayne State ended Minnesota Duluth's conference winning streak and much more Saturday, beating the Bulldogs 7-0 in Wayne, Neb.
UMD, ranked No. 1 and the defending champion in NCAA Division II, had won 17 games in a row and 31 NSIC games in a row, and it hadn't been shut out in its past 128 NSIC games, since 1989. UMD had won 23 consecutive road games and 41 straight NSIC road games.
Wayne State (2-1, 2-0 NSIC) got all the scoring it needed from its special teams. On the final play of the third quarter, a UMD punt was blocked by Wayne State's Alex Konicek at the Bulldogs 36-yard line, and Kevin Paulson ran it in for a touchdown.
The Bulldogs (2-1, 1-1) struggled on offense. Junior quarterback Chase Vogler completed only 15 of 32 passes for 189 yards, and his last throw -- on the final drive of the game -- was picked off, ending his streak of consecutive attempts without an interception at 106.
