Area college roundup: Southwest Minnesota State RB rushes for 340 yards, 3 TDs

Charlie Kern's 23-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Dean with three seconds to play lifted Southwest Minnesota State to a 27-20 NSIC victory at MSU Moorhead on Saturday. The Mustangs had trailed 20-12 early in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Tonderum rushed for a school-record 340 yards and three TDs for the Mustangs. His third TD on a 13-yard run and Kern's two-point conversion tied the score at 20-20 with 8:52 left.

Minnesota State Mankato 68, Minnesota Crookston 26: The Mavericks (2-0) scored two touchdowns in the first five minutes and kept scoring at Blakeslee Stadium. Connor Thomas ran for 75 yards and two touchdowns for the Mavericks while Jon Wolf threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

Concordia (St. Paul) 17, Bemidji State 14: Jared Russo's 19-yard TD pass to Gabe Boyce — on fourth-down-and-6 — with 46 seconds left gave the Golden Bears (2-0) the road victory. Russo was 14-for-24 for 139 yards and two TDs.

St. Cloud State 29, Winona State 26: Quarterback Phillip Klaphake's 6-yard TD run with 43 seconds left enabled the Huskies to beat the Warriors at home. Freshman Jack Nelson of Winona State was 16-for-29 for 228 yards and one touchdown.

Minnesota-Duluth 37, Upper Iowa 19: Drew Bauer scored on a 52-yard run and threw an 8-yard TD pass to Jeremy Reierson to help UMD take a 28-0 lead on the road.
