Area college football roundup: Minnesota State Mankato pulls away from Southwest Minnesota State

The host Minnesota State Mankato football team outscored Southwest Minnesota State 35-0 in the second half to pull away for a 48-7 victory Saturday.

Mitchell Thompson passed for 156 yards and a TD and ran for 58 yards and a TD for the Mavericks. Sam Backer rushed for 103 yards, including a 52-yard TD run, as Minnesota State Mankato rushed for 337 yards.

The Mavericks are ranked No. 21 in the D2football.com poll.

Minnesota State Moorhead 49, Bemidji State 21: Jack Strand passed for 366 yards and seven TDs to lead the host Dragons past the Beavers. Strand’s 2-yard TD pass with 26 seconds left in the first half to Madden Thorson put the Dragons up 28-14 at halftime.

Minnesota Duluth 45, Jamestown 29: Kyle Walljasper threw for four TDs and ran for a TD as the No. 10 Bulldogs outlasted the host Jimmies. Luke Dehnicke caught three TD passes for the Bulldogs, who led 24-8 at halftime in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Augustana 27, Northern State 14: Rich Lucero threw two TD passes and Breylon Blount ran for 153 yards as the No. 9 Vikings stayed unbeaten by beating the Wolves in Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls 49, Winona State 24: Tate Schafer passed for 391 yards and three TDs and the host Cougars pulled away in the second half from the Warriors.

Wayne State (Neb.) 34, Concordia (St. Paul) 0: Dawson Forgy rushed for three TDs and the Wildcats defense limited the host Golden Bears to 117 yards and five first downs.

Bethel 55, Concordia (Moorhead) 9: Cooper Drews was 26-of-34 for 250 yards and three TDs and the No. 4 Royals outscored the host Cobbers 48-0 in the middle two quarters.

St. John’s 31, Gustavus Adolphus 13: Trey Feeney threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns as the No. 11 Johnnies defeated the Gusties in St. Peter, Minn.

Carleton 48, Augsburg 17: Jack Curtis threw for 307 yards and four TDs, two in the second quarter to Jaxon Watson, to lead the host Knights past the Auggies.

Macalester 27, St. Olaf 6: Jack Scully passed for 268 yards and two touchdowns and Brennan Litchford rushed for 113 yards and two TDs as the Scots defeated the Oles in St. Paul.

St. Scholastica 49, Hamline 18: Donald West passed for 306 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 58 yards and a TD for the Saints vs. the Pipers in Duluth. Zayden Stevens threw for 339 yards and a TD for Hamline.

Northwestern 24, Martin Luther 17: Basil Demco’s 13-yard touchdown run with 2:24 remaining lifted the Eagles past the Knights in New Ulm, Minn. Martin Luther drove to the Northwestern 12-yard line, but the Eagles held on downs with 34 seconds to play. The Knights trailed 17-7 after three quarters.

Crown 34, Minnesota Morris 15: Jamarrius Courtney rushed for 163 yards and a score and threw two TD passes as the Polars beat the host Cougars.
