Area college football roundup: Minnesota Duluth QB Kyle Walljasper runs for four touchdowns

St. Olaf stopped a two-point conversion and got a last-minute interception to hold off Concordia (Moorhead) by a point.

Quarterback Kyle Walljasper rushed for 121 yards and four touchdowns to lead Minnesota Duluth, ranked No. 11 in the D2Football.com poll, to a 34-17 victory at Sioux Falls on Saturday.

Walljasper ran for three TDs in the first half as the Bulldogs (4-0) built a 28-0 lead. Early in the third quarter, he scored on a 2-yard run to extend UMD’s lead to 34-0 before the Cougars (3-1) scored 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Derrick Johnson rushed for 70 yards and a TD for the Bulldogs, who rushed for 251 yards.

Minnesota State Mankato 36, Jamestown 7: Maximus Sims passed for 233 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 65 yards and a score to pace the Mavericks, ranked No. 14, to the victory over the host Jimmies.

Winona State 35, Minot State 25: Jackson Flottmeyer passed for 152 yards and three touchdowns and Anthony Powell rushed for 133 yards and two TDs as the host Warriors outlasted the Beavers.

Augustana 42, Bemidji State 14: Gunnar Hensley threw three touchdown passes and rushed for a TD and Ryan Kenny ran for 121 yards and two TDs to lead the Vikings, ranked No. 13 in the D2football.com poll, past the host Beavers, who fell to 0-4.

Mary 40, Southwest Minnesota State 9: Hudson Sheldon threw for 213 yards and four TDs, three in the second half, and rushed for 71 yards as the visiting Marauders pulled away from the host Mustangs.

Northern State 31, Concordia (St. Paul) 10: Hank Kraft ran for 104 yards and a touchdown and caught a 30-yard TD pass in the Wolves’ victory over the Golden Bears in Aberdeen, S.D.

Wayne State (Neb.) 27, Minnesota State Moorhead 17: Dawson Forgy ran for 223 yards and two TDs to lead the Wildcats over the host Dragons. Jack Strand passed for 284 yards and a TD for the Dragons, who fell to 3-1.

Division III

St. Olaf 17, Concordia (Moorhead) 16: Alec Mahoney’s interception with 55 seconds remaining sealed the Oles’ victory over the Cobbers in Northfield. Concordia had pulled with 17-16 with 3:45 to play on a 7-yard TD run by Griffin Babolian, but St. Olaf stopped the Cobbers’ two-point conversion attempt. The Oles took a 17-10 lead on Will Skemp’s 61-yard TD reception with 11:25 remaining and the ensuing extra point.

Augsburg 30, St. Scholastica 23: Caden Rodkewich threw for 321 yards and four TDs, including a tiebreaking 82-yarder to Tyrone Wilson with 6:05 to play, and the Auggies outlasted the Saints in Duluth. Wilson’s long score came on Augsburg’s first play after the Saints had tied the score with a field goal. London Campbell’s interception with 3:48 remaining stopped a Saints drive at the Auggies 27-yard line, and Augsburg ran out the clock.

St. John’s 58, Hamline 0: Trey Feeney threw for 238 yards and two TDs and Zander Dittbenner threw a TD pass and ran for two more to lead the Johnnies, ranked No. 5, in St. Paul. The Johnnies outgained the Pipers 615-207 and had 30 first downs.

Bethel 41, Gustavus Adolphus 7: Cooper Drews passed for 291 yards and four TDs for the Royals, ranked No. 13 in the D3Football.com poll, routed the host Gusties.

Carleton 51, Macalester 7: Jack Curtis threw for 478 yards and six TDs in the host Knights’ victory over the Scots. Tyler Dimond caught nine passes for 193 yards and two TDs for Carleton.

Crown 30, Minnesota Morris 20: Jamarrius Courtney ran for 235 yards and three TDs and threw a TD pass as the host Polars beat the Cougars. Courtney scored on runs of 70 and 37 yards in the fourth quarter after the Cougars had pulled within 17-14.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire 42, Martin Luther 6: Nick Scott rushed for 126 yards and a TD and Paxton Rothmeier ran for two more to lead the host Blugolds past the Knights. The Blugolds rushed for 390 yards in 42 attempts.

Wisconsin-Stout 56, Northwestern (St. Paul) 13: Adam Moen completed 23 of 27 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a score as the Blue Devils dropped the host Eagles to 0-3.
