Those who have watched "Antiques Roadshow" on PBS know the excitement when a piece of household junk turns out to be a treasure.
Antique treasures to be appraised in St. Louis Park
Residents can bring their treasures for appraisal by experts at "Park's Antique Parade" on May 16.

Now residents of St. Louis Park have a chance to feel that thrill. The St. Louis Park Historical Society is sponsoring "Park's Antique Parade" on May 16 at the St. Louis Park High School cafeteria.
Residents who register in advance can bring up to three items for appraisal by experts Bonnie Lindberg and James Marrinan of Appraisal Specialists Midwest. There is a $10 fee for each item.
Lindberg, a St. Louis Park resident, spent decades locating several Norman Rockwell paintings that were stolen from Minneapolis' Elayne Galleries, the art gallery once owned by her late mother.
The event is a fundraiser for the Historical Society, which has long-term plans for a larger museum and more display space. Those who don't bring items are invited to watch the fun. The antiques parade is being recorded for later broadcast on community television.
"The appraisers told us that at each event they do, they usually have at least one surprise — something that's worth a lot more than the owners thought," said Sue Ainsworth, a Historical Society trustee.
Participants are asked to bring their most fun and unusual items. Dolls, wristwatches, jewelry, weapons and sports memorabilia will not be accepted. For more information, go to www.slphistory.org.
