Every day, it seems, a big med-tech company opens a large facility of some sort in Asia, one of the hottest markets going in the industry.

Tuesday's installment: Little Canada-based St. Jude Medical said it celebrated the grand opening of its $2.5 million Advanced Technology Center Asia Pacific in Beijing. Various dignitaries attended.

The Center was designed to provide doctors in China and throughout the Asia-Pacific region with training opportunities, including lectures, peer-to-peer education and hands-on using virtual reality technology on the company's products in cardiology, cardiac surgery, and arrhythmia management. More than 2,000 doctors (mostly from China) are expected to visit the Center annually. St. Jude says the center will also be used to provide training to employees.

St. Jude said it established the Center "with the kind support" In Ministry of Health and the Beijing city government, although it's unclear what the support entailed.
