More students will return to Annunciation Catholic Church and School this week with a shortened week of activities “centered on support, connection, and play.”

In a Sunday release, Annunciation announced students will return beginning Tuesday for “some on-campus activities,” with a modified schedule for the week. Last week, nearly 20 preschoolers returned to the school with their parents.

The return of some on-campus activities comes nearly three weeks after a shooter fired into the church on Aug. 27 during a Mass, killing two children and injuring 21 others. Funeral services were held Sunday for 10-year-old Harper Moyski. Services for Fletcher Merkel were held the week before.

“We have spent the past week preparing for a safe, supportive resumption that is focused on healing and connection,” the release said. “We recognize that, while we walk our path together, some members of our community walk at different paces and with other steps.”

The activities will run until Thursday. There will be a “visible security presence” at the school, according to the release. Support services from the Washburn Center for Children and the Minnesota Department of Education will be at Annunciation to help both students and staff.

The church and school’s plans after next week are not clear from the release.

“As we experience next week,” the release said, “we will have a better sense of our next steps for the weeks ahead.”
