AFTERNOON UPDATE

The national media is bored. By this time last year, the Marlins had made it rain all on on several free agents, and everyone had something to write.
This year, the lobbies at this hotel (there are many) are full of reporters, looking for news.

The Twins are deep into their search for starting pitching. A report out of Washington has them interested in lefthander John Lannan, which we reported in today's dead-tree editions. Lannan was linked to the Orioles earlier in the day but now it appears that the Orioles are not interested.

Francisco Liriano's agents are expected to meet with the Twins sometime today. They also represent Joe Saunders, who could also be on the Twins' radar.

No word on if they met with the agents for Brandon McCarthy or Brett Myers yet, although they were expected to.

Twins General Manager Terry Ryan told SirriusXM satellite radio today that Joe Mauer is not getting traded, in case you were worried.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was a guest on The MLB Network, during which he gave a shout out to all his front office staff who are, "trying to trade all my players." He still has his sense of humor.

Will check in later with more updates.

UPDATE: ESPN's Jerry Crasnick is reporting that the Twins also are interested in Kevin Correia and Joe Blanton. It shows that the Twins have cast their nets rather far in their search for starting pitching.
