1:54Anita Mack of St. Paul was crowned the 2013 Klondike Kate Wednesday night at the Prom Center in Oakdale.
She was one of five full-figured, full-throated women who competed to wear the sash in the warmup event for the St. Paul Winter Carnival.
The contestants were judged on musical performance, song choice, vocal abilities, costuming, crowd appeal and authenticity.
This year's other "Kate-testants" were Shelley Brown of Inver Grove Heights, Amy Marie Hopkins of Baldwin, Wis., Lynn Lane-Jensen of Fridley and Kathy Rustin-Westphal of St. Paul Park.
The carnival, in its 127th year, will run from Jan. 24 to Feb. 3 and will feature the King Boreas Grande Day parade, ice- and snow-sculpting contests and, new this year, a birthday celebration for Mozart, with performances by the St. Paul Civic Symphony and the Minnesota Chorale.
