A Cub Scout surprise

A Cub Scout surprise My son, Noah, has been waiting for years to join the Cub Scouts.

The big day arrived for him last week. At 6:30 p.m., dens of boys and their parents met in the school cafeteria to begin a new year of scouting.

The color guard began the flag ceremony: we saluted the flag, said the Pledge of Allegiance and then each new den went up to be presented with its corresponding year's neckerchief, neckerchief slide and instruction manual.

My little boy is finally a Tiger Scout, and he could not be happier.

After the ceremony, he dropped the Tiger Scout manual with me. I thought I would just take a gander at what I will be reading with my son.

I turned to an inside page and saw "Bobcat Requirements: What-if scenarios and how to handle them." Sounded harmless enough, and I thought that the suggestions will be along the lines of "make sure to tie your food in a tree when you are camping," and the like.

I could not have been more wrong.
