Yesterday's ice and snow and today's wind conspired to create treacherous conditions on Hwy. 52 in Inver Grove Heights. No fewer than six crashes and spin outs between Upper 55th Street and Southview Blvd. created problems for commuters heading in both directions.

The worst drive was northbound as traffic jammed from 80th Street up to Southview Blvd. The road was glare ice and that made for a difficult commute. At present, the jam has loosened.

Green Line riders also had sizeable delays during the middle of the rush. A train experienced a coupling issue, a Metro Transit spokesman said, and that led to delays of up to 20 minutes along the line. The issue was resolved around 8:20 a.m. Trains were getting back to a normal schedule, but some delays might persist.

At present, the State Patrol is dealing with two crashes on westbound 94 between Cleveland Avenue and Hwy. 280.

There is also some kind of a traffic incident unfolding on the ramp from westbound 94 at Cedar Avenue.

That's it for today. I'll be back Thursday with more traffic reports. Questions and comments on metro area traffic and transit welcome at drive@startribune.com.
