"The Year of Billy Miller," by Kevin Henkes. The adventures of a second-grade boy in Wisconsin.

"The Borrowers," by Mary Norton. A series of books about a family of tiny people who live in the floorboards of homes.

"All of a Kind Family," by Sydney Taylor. The first in a series of books about a big Jewish family in New York in the early 1900s.
