Soil restoration

Soil plays an important part in a yard’s vitality. Kassie Brown, founder and educator of Renaissance Soil, will discuss soil ecosystems at a meeting of Prairie Edge Wild Ones. Brown will lead an in-depth discussion of how healthy soil can clean and hold water and grow resilient plants. 7 p.m. Jan. 9. Weed management

Pesky creeping Charlie is the topic of January’s meeting of Dakota Gardeners. Cindy Tong, a professor in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Minnesota, will discuss how to manage the invasive weed in lawns. 7 p.m. Jan. 16. Tea and flowers

Dates have been added for the afternoon teas during the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s flower show “Passport to Spring.” The centerpiece of the show is a French-inspired glass house surrounded by fragrant herbs, plants and flowers. Vinyl and vintage

Fly Vintage & Vinyl, a new retro decor and record store, will hold its grand opening from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 12. DJ Jake Rudh will spin records from 1 to 4 p.m., and there’s free swag while supplies last.

“Our vintage furniture and decor is primarily ’60s and ’70s,” said owner Betsy Ruppert-Kan. “Think ‘Mad Men’ meets ‘The Brady Bunch.’ ” The shop also sells records from the 1960s to the present, including ’80s New Wave and classic rock. Fly Vintage & Vinyl, 3900 36th Av. N., Robbinsdale.
