A pickup truck driver crossed into the wrong lane on a highway north of the Twin Cities and collided with two vehicles, killing one of the other motorists, authorities said Thursday.

The pickup driver, Shawn R. Abbott, 28, of McGregor, Minn., was jailed in Isanti County on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and possessing drug paraphernalia in connection with the crash Wednesday afternoon.

Killed in the collision was Robert T. Palmen, 70, of Mora, Minn., according to the State Patrol. His wife, Marna, 69, was hospitalized with noncritical injuries. Two people in the third vehicle were not hurt.

According to the patrol, Abbott was heading south on Hwy. 65 at Rice Lake Road near Braham, when he crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Palmens’ minivan. Abbott’s pickup then hit a car.
