The Twins and Vikings both entered the 2013 seasons with different levels of optimism. The Twins were hoping that moves to shore up their starting pitching, plus the advancement of young players, would push them back toward respectability after 99- and 96-loss seasons. The Vikings were attempting to build on a playoff season in which second-year QB Christian Ponder started all 16 regular-season games. Both, however, have taken terrible stumbles.
