WARROAD, Minn. – Two people were killed when their car collided with a freight train near Warroad in northern Minnesota.
The State Patrol says the crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at a railroad crossing on Highway 11 south of Warroad.
The patrol reported that a Ford Focus slowed at a stop sign but did not stop before going across the tracks. The eastbound train struck the car on the driver's side and pushed the car into a ditch.
Killed were the car's driver, 35-year-old Aaron Cook of Warroad, and a passenger, 33-year-old Sheryl Reed of Macon, Ga.
The train driver was not hurt. The patrol says the road was dry at the time.
