1A girls hockey final: South St. Paul 6-0 over Hutchinson

The Packers move on to Friday's state semifinals against Breck.

February 24, 2010 at 10:03PM

Friday's first Class 1A semifinal will be Breck vs. South St. Paul after the Packers downed Hutchinson 6-0 this afternoon. Boy are the Packers' student fans happy. The "No school Fri-day" chants erupted with about 3 minutes to go in the game.

Not much else to say about this one. The Packers, up 4-0 after two periods, added a fifth goal in textbook fashion early in the third. A beautiful behind-the-net pass from Sam LaShomb to Riley Viner looked like one of those plays coaches love to draw up. Viner then added a second goal late in the period.

All that was left after that was to wait for zeroes on the scoreboard. Again.

To recap my day: two games, two shutouts, 16-zip total.

Shots finished 29-9 in this one, making it 80-20 on the day (winners vs. losers) if I'm doing my math correctly (and that's iffy, folks.)

Prep hockey aficionado David La Vaque will take you through the Class 1A evening session tonight from the X. I'll be back here tomorrow for the first half of four Class 2A quarterfinal games.

Ciao.

Randle was a strong candidate to play in the All-Star Game on Sunday, but was not chosen and will head to the beach instead.
