Some time this afternoon, the 12th Avenue bridge over I-494 in Bloomington will close until late May to allow MnDOT crews to make repairs,
During the four-week closure, motorists traveling southbound on 12th Avenue will be detoured to westbound 77th Street, southbound Portland Avenue and eastbound American Blvd. Northbound traffic will be detoured to westbound American Blvd., northbound Portland Avenue and eastbound 77th Street.
In conjunction with the closure, MnDOT says there will be overnight lane closures in both directions on I-494 at 12th Avenue. Lanes will shut down at 8 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday.
That's not the only work in the area that will begin this week. On Wednesday, Cedar Avenue drivers will experience off-peak lane closures in the vicinity of I-494. Those closures will be in place Wednesday through Friday.
They are part of a larger project that includes reconstructing the northbound Cedar Avenue bridge deck over I-49, repairing the southbound Cedar Avenue bridges over I-494 and resurfacing 12th Avenue and the bridge deck over I-494.
