What nation in modern history (or ever, prior to and during wartime), in order to protect human life and non combatants in particular,  has:

1. Furnished the enemy electrical power and food supply.

2. Dropped untold volumes of pre-war operation leaflets explaining where and when it would attack.

3. In advance, placed thousands of calls to the individual homes of its enemies in the war zone describing the time and place of attack, so as to limit civilian and enemy casualties.

4. Placed its own soldiers at mortal risk because of these humane methods.

The answer is the nation of Israel. All of this took place during its recent military operation in Gaza code named Cast Lead. Israel responded with operation Cast Lead only after years of countless unprovoked missile attacks and other terrorist activities directed against its civilian population.  During this prolonged period, the UN and most member nations were unusually silent.

No other UN member nation would have tolerated these unprovoked actions and limited its response. For its restraint during this prolonged period of terrorist bombardment and for its humanitarian efforts to reduce enemy casualties during operation Cast Lead, Israel should probably be nominated for a Nobel peace prize.  Instead, it received the UN’s booby prize, entitled the Goldstone Report, which named Israel guilty of war crimes.  Unless the UN is called to task for its hypocrisy here, we should rethink our support for an institution which has strayed far from its original noble standards.

Separately, we should be proud and thankful for the many members of our US Senate and US Congress who’ve had the courage and humanity to stand up and protest this Report.  Doesn’t this truly exemplify what our founding fathers believed in?  That unlike most other nations,we are free and emboldened to stand up and declare what is right, without fear of persecution or endangerment.
