People who fall in love with basketball usually do so because of the beauty of the game. The thrill of witnessing a perfectly executed play, the sound shoes make on the court, watching the ball swish through the net are all part of what makes us fans of the game. Why then is it when women become professional basketball players, very few basketball fans come out to watch.

Every level of basketball is different and has something to offer it's fans. When kids first start playing the game it looks more like a scrum in rugby. The ball gets tied up every ten seconds and the score may end up being 10 to 6 but when a kid makes her first shot and the crowd erupts it is a beautiful thing.

High school basketball brings more passion, kids starting to realize that if you really come off a screen hard you will be wide open. In high school the kids have a better understanding of the game. Players are starting to decide that the game is something they truly enjoy and not just an activity that mom and dad have put them in.

College is wonderful-the best of the best have come together to play the game. The intensity level jumps as kids play to work off their scholarships. Many years of dedication provides the viewer with amazing ball handling, intricate offenses, and teamwork that makes everyone smile.

Since 1997 female hoopers have a professional option in the United States with the WNBA. Elite players who have stood out at every level are brought together to show off their skills and make a modest living at a game they love. For the men, the NBA makes them rich and famous. For the women it's an opportunity of a lifetime, which is why very few WNBA athletes complain about their situations.

Unfortunately, they will play in front of very few fans. What happened to all of the men who said they loved the sport, they only love it when guys play it? All of the women who say that it is so wonderful that women can play professional basketball, those same women don't show up at the games. The tickets are affordable, the players are accessible, and still no one wants to come watch. If you want to try something new this summer, grab a friend and go spend two hours watching our WNBA team. You won't be disappointed.
