As the Iranian government has restricted journalists' access to events unfolding in the streets of Tehran, the protesters have used technology to direct the public and journalists alike to video, photographs and written material related to the protests. None has been followed more closely than the postings on the agile communication system Twitter. ¶ While it is hard to say how much tweeting is actually going on inside Iran, an Iranian-American activist in Washington said that tweets from a handful of students have been instrumental in getting information to people outside Iran, who have then passed along those messages (called RT, for re-tweeting). ¶ "The predominant information is coming from Twitter, since foreign reporters' movement has been limited," said the activist, who spoke on condition of anonymity citing concern that authorities in Tehran could block her from receiving transmissions.
