UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations says the U.N. chemical weapons expert team has assembled in The Hague, Netherlands and is completing preparations before departing to Syria to investigate three incidents of alleged chemical weapons use.

U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said Tuesday that the United Nations is also working to finalize legal requirements and logistical arrangements for the investigations at Khan al-Assal near Aleppo and two other sites which are being kept secret for safety and security reasons.

"It is anticipated that these preparations will be completed within the next days, following which the date of the mission in Syria will be announced," Nesirky said.

The investigation team's mandate is to report on whether chemical weapons were used, and if so which chemical weapon, but not to determine the responsibility for an attack.
