I'm sure they make some mediocre plonk in Slovenia, but the stuff that gets here tends to be first-rate. (It's well-vetted, I'm guessing.) The 2014 Giacoto Primorska Sauvignon Blanc ($15) is another gem, with delightful floral aromas and juicy fruit flavors (actually, not unlike Juicy Fruit gum). It's made in a more New World style — think tropical fruit — than most European whites but boasts wonderful purity and a smooth minerally texture. This should be on party planners' lists because of its versatility — chardonnay and sauv blanc lovers will appreciate it — and is well-suited for mildly spicy Tex-Mex and Asian dishes.
Available at Cellars (Plymouth), Edina (York Av.) and 1010 Washington.
