2014 Bisceglia Aglianico del Vulture
It’s the most blustery time of the year, and that calls for robust red wine, preferably by a crackling fire. Wines like the 2014 Bisceglia Aglianico del Vulture ($14), which will warm your innards mightily without slamming your billfold. It’s sturdy as she goes, with fab dark red fruit playfully grappling with spot-on tannins, culminating in a balanced, super-hearty finish. This red emanates from the southern Italy region of Basilicata, in a farming community, Lavello, that has earned the nickname “Città del Vino” (“Wine Town”). Get to braising or roasting meat and/or veggies, or ladle out some French onion soup with this rustic gem.
