Already amping up for an uncharacteristically cool September (with Pavement, Arcade Fire and Flaming Lips), Jam Productions and the Roy Wilkins Auditorium announced ticket details on two big October shows at the St. Paul mini-arena: One of the best live metal bands around, Godsmack, on Oct. 19, followed by the absolute best live dance-rock band around, LCD Soundsystem, on Oct. 23. Both shows go on sale next Saturday morning (Sept. 11). Godsmack's tour stop behind its May release "The Oracle" will be $39.50-$49.50 and features Five Finger Punch and Drowning Pool as openers. LCD's gig -- which fans have known about for months, but it weirdly never went on sale -- will cost $33 and offer Hot Chip on first. Those prices don't include Ticketmaster fees. Check TM or fan sites for pre-sale details.
A couple reasons the Wilkins is getting all these shows (STP and Slayer/Megadeth also just played there): Many bigger arena tours have struggled to sell tickets of late. Also, the Wilkins no longer faces the competetion from Myth nightclub in Maplewood, where both the Lips and Godsmack played their last time in town. Do you miss the Myth, or no?
