Gov. Mark Dayton met with his number two Monday afternoon to learn whether she will stick around for a second term.

Before the meeting both Dayton and Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon were quiet about their plans.

Forty minutes after their meeting was to begin, a gubernatorial spokesman released an advisory saying she planned to talk to the press at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The release said she would "announce her plans for the future" and little else.

She said last week that she had decided whether or not to run but would not share her decision until she met with Dayton. Dayton, too, kept his thoughts to himself. On Friday, he repeatedly refused to answer any questions about the issue.

The relationship between Minnesota's top constitutional officers has been a distant one. Prettner Solon, a former state senator from Duluth, said they do not talk often.

The governor has said he left it largely up to Prettner Solon to decide whether to run with him in a re-election fight.

Correction: An earlier version of this post wrongly described who will be at Tuesday's 9 am press conference. It will be just Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon.
