• The timetable: It could take the FDA a year to craft the rules after a four-month comment period. Farms would have at least two years to comply. Smaller farms would have even longer to comply.
• The cost: The rules could cost large farms $30,000 a year, the FDA said. The agency did not break down the costs for individual processing plants, but said the rules could cost manufacturers up to $475 million annually.
