ROBBINSDALE

Forum on school levy features both sides

Robbinsdale School District residents are invited to a forum about the district's proposed $22.8 million operating levy referendum tonight from 7 to 8 at Robbinsdale Area Learning Center, 3730 Toledo Av. N., Robbinsdale.

The event was organized by members of the Robbinsdale Area Schools Vote Yes Committee.

Superintendent Stan Mack and representatives from a group that is opposing the levy, Citizens Acting for Responsible Education, or 281 Care, are scheduled to present information and answer questions from the audience.

Each side will make two-minute opening statements and 15-minute presentations, then field questions.

MINNETONKA

Economics teacher's lesson plan recognized

Emily Rosengren, an economics teacher at Minnetonka High School, won the 3M Innovative Economic Educator Award for a lesson plan involving economics and the Great Depression.

Rosengren was recognized for a unit on minimum wage and how government welfare programs have evolved since the 1800s.

The award is sponsored by 3M and the Minnesota Council on Economic Education.

Thanksgiving dinner from the cafeteria

Royal Cuisine, the Hopkins School District's food service provider, is taking orders for Thanksgiving meals.

A full meal costs $85 and feeds 10 to 12 people. It includes 12 to 14 pounds of roasted turkey, 3 pounds of homemade mashed potatoes, a 3-pound yam casserole, fresh green bean almondine, homemade cranberry relish, sage dressing, multi-grain dinner rolls and pumpkin pie.

Kevin Wright, interim director of Royal Cuisine, said the district has offered the Thanksgiving dinner service for three years. Proceeds benefit the district's food service operations.

Orders must be paid in full with a credit card or check and can be placed at the Wetlands Café at Eisenhower Elementary School, at the Depot Too at Hopkins High School, at any school cafeteria, or via e-mail at kevin_wright@hopkins. k12.mn.us. Orders must be placed by Nov. 14.

Meals can be picked up from 3-4:30 p.m. Nov. 20 or noon to 3 p.m. Nov 21 at the Wetlands Café or the Depot Too.

MAPLE GROVE

Fair to highlight magnet programs

The Northwest Suburban Integration School District will host its Choice Fair on Saturday featuring representatives from regional magnet schools and performances by students, jazz artist T. Mycheal Rambo and KDWB's Dave Ryan.

The magnet programs are open to students who live in the Anoka-Hennepin, Brooklyn Center, Buffalo, Elk River, Fridley, Osseo and Rockford districts. The application period starts Sunday and runs through Jan. 15.

The Choice Fair is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Road, Maple Grove. For more information, go to www.nws.k12.mn.us.
