Annual fall music festival relocates

The Robbinsdale Area Schools' annual Fall Music Festival will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center instead of Orchestra Hall, where it's been held the last 14 years, because of construction there.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 and will feature the All-District Elementary Choir, Cooper and Armstrong Symphonic Bands, Symphony Orchestras, Bel Canto, Cantori and Concert Choirs. It will feature guest conductor Matthew Mehaffey, an associate professor of music at the University of Minnesota.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Family Center earns top state rating

The Bloomington/Richfield Family Center's preschool programs are among the first in the state to earn the award of getting four out of a possible four stars on the Parent Aware ratings. The awarded preschool programs include Kinderprep, Kids Count and Bright Beginnings.

The Parent Aware star rating system, which helps parents find high-quality programs, measures the best practices that are most predictive of school readiness, including curriculum, assessment, teacher qualifications and professional development. It's led by the Minnesota Department of Human Services in coordination with the Minnesota Office of Early Learning.

Foundation funds early learning

The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce Foundation is funding a new early learning program in St. Louis Park's Meadowbrook community aimed at narrowing the achievement gap.

Kids at Work is a three-year pilot program that will give pre-kindergarten education to young students who don't have access or have little access to educational programming.
