Coon Rapids, Minn.
Ryan has always been interested in weather. After moving to Sturgeon Bay, Wis., for the United States Coast Guard, he became a weather observer for the National Weather Service in Green Bay, Wis., and would also keep track of the weather with his personal weather station. After completing five years in the United States Coast Guard, he moved back to Minnesota, where he continued to keep track of the weather. Ryan is also interested in taking photos of weather as well as watching a good thunderstorm in the summer time. He’s a 1999 graduate of Blaine High School.
When I woke up this am and looked out the window, I noticed the white stuff on the ground, it was a good thing last night that I set up my snow measuring equipment ( in the processing of changing it), so I could measure this am's snowfall. I was not expecting to find what I found. I measured 1.8" of the white fluffy snow.
Yesterday I also removed my rainguage for the season, since my rainguage does not have a heater in it. More…

T-storm update. The rain in Coon Rapids has stopped for now, but by looking at the current radar from NWS we still may be in for more rain. The temp is on the rise slowly, with the wind averaging around 5mph. The Barometric Pressure has been staying steady since 3pm. More…

I finally moved to a house that has a big open back yard which allowed me to set-up my weather station properly as well as being able to post proper WX information. My Anemometer is mounted around ten feet up, with the Thermo-Hygrometer four to five feet from the ground, next to that is the rain gauge, which is able to measure rain free from obstructions. More…

I can't measure give an accurate measurement of the snowfall from yesterday, with the snow blowing and drifting its hard. The way I know how to measure snow is you need to make a snowboard. A snowboard is a square peice of plywood raised of the ground with a 2x4 (you can use anything), you set the snowboard in an area free of trees, so the snow can fall with out the trees being in the way. The snowboard can be moved on top of the fresh snowfall, doing so will give you a better measurement. More…
