Superbowl brings in winter storm

Red Sky Morning

It has been a little while since our last significant snow fall. I believe it was Christmas day we got hit with a storm that dropped about 15 inches of snow on us. We have had a few little storms come through and drop another inch or two but nothing of any real significance until yesterday when we got about 4 inches of the white stuff. Its right at that line should I plow or leave it go. I haven't decided yet. And now I have to consider what is coming. The current winter storm watch is saying we could see more then 10 of snow by  the time it pushes out of here late Monday night. So for now I will have to keep my eye on it. Monday could be a real mess on the roads as this thing is supposed to have some pretty heavy snow falls through out the day on Monday. Well it will be a nice way to start off the week.

Enjoy your Saturday for tomorrow you may have shovel.

Clear, Cold and Calm

The clearing the high pressure brought in is like removing the blankets. The temp dropped to -13 this morning. Fortunately the winds have died down as well so the wind chill is not much colder than the actual air temp. We will be in this area of high pressure for the coming days. That means we will remain cold too. Highs will barely get to the double digits and lows will be around zero. There is an chance of snow in the forecast so we will keep our eyes on that.

YUK!

Last night the rain moved in and since the temperature was below freezing, the rain froze on everything it hit. One side of our house was covered with ice. Then it began to warm this morning and the began to melt then more rain moved in and it has been raining on and off all day. The field out back began to look like an ocean as the rain fell and laid on top of the snow and ice. Snow and rain mixed and created a coating of slush on the ground. Tonight it will cool off again and we have cooler weather ahead. This will all freeze and stick around awhile. Like I said YUCK! This is just yucky weather. Look at the bright side we are in what is typically the coldest part of the year. Its all up hill from here. (I hope).

The old cliche "Is it cold enough for you" comes to mind this morning

Last update: January 2, 2010 - 8:12 AM

Fortunately for us there is no wind right now, but like that old cliche, I think -24.2 is cold enough and I don't need some wind to make it feel any colder. We are in the deep freeze now and we won't be warming significantly any time soon. The temps are expected to drop to around - 20  again tonight after we warm to a scorching -4 for our forecast high today. Sunday will be more of the same.  The wind chill advisory posted by the National Weather Service remains in effect, but with temps this low you don't need any wind for it to be dangerous.

It's getting real cold

A refrigerator freezer is usually around 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and a stand alone freezer will usually be around -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Tonight we have made it to the deep freeze. As our temperatures have now fallen below the -10 degree mark and they are still falling. The national weather service has issued a wind chill advisory for the next few days as the air temperature will drop to the -15 to -25 degree range, and there will be winds in the 5 to 15 mph range that could have wind chills in the -25 to -35 range.  Tomorrow we wont even get to zero for a high. The forecast high is for -6 and it will drop back to the -20 degree range tomorrow night. It is going to be dangerously cold the next couple days. We will probably be seeing below zero temps for the next week or more.

Snowmageddon is a term I heard from a co-worker today. I thought it was pretty funny so I had to use it.
The winter storm we have been hearing about is now hear. The snow started about an hour or two ago here, We are just getting a slight covering right now. The wind is blowing in the 10-15 mph range so the snow that is falling is also blowing and and drifting already. Stay tuned this could be the weather event we have waited for all year.
