Rich is an avid outdoorsman who has been a weather observer since he was in grade school. He has had a lifelong interest in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and is an avid small boat and offshore sailor. He holds a 100-ton US Coast Guard license. He is a retired Orthopaedic Surgeon and has lived in La Crosse, Wis., for 35 years. He operates Weather Underground station KWILACRO3.

First Snow of the Season in La Crosse

Like much of the region, La Crosse had snow in the air yesterday. But contrary to our neighbors to the north, we had no significant accumulation. At most, we had a little dusting, but that melted quickly. It is my understanding that there was an accumulation of one to three inches north of Interstate 90. We received a total of 0.17 inches of water in the rain gauge here in Bridal Coulee.
We are getting significant color change in the leaves of the forests surrounding La Crosse. I would think that the color would peak over the next four or five days, but that is just a guess.
