Snow Flakes to Fly... in Seattle?

Last update: November 13, 2009 - 7:25 AM

A storm system with arctic origins will crash into the Pacific Northwest today, spreading rain over coastal areas and snow, heavy at times, to mountain areas.

That's just to start.

Snow levels will likely drop all the way down to 500 feet or less Friday evening as cold air rushes in behind the storms' associated cold front. The hillier terrain just to the east of Seattle will likely see a slushy coating through the evening hours as temperatures fall to the freezing mark -- and snow flakes are expected to make an appearance downtown.

Accumulations are very unlikely in Seattle proper, but regardless it will certainly feel a little more like winter for folks in the Emerald City (formerly known as the Queen City). A return to more normal conditions is expected by Sunday.

Story by AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Randy Adkins.
