Ida will head northward into the central Gulf of Mexico on Monday, likely as a category 1 hurricane. Areas from southeastern Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle will be threatened by flooding rainfall, high winds and battering waves.
Moisture from a low over the western Gulf will merge with Ida's moisture, enhancing the flood threat further.
Several inches of rain could fall over areas highlighted with the greatest flood threat in the image above on Monday and Monday night. Flooding is likely to result. In some areas, high water will rush over secondary roadways and highways alike. Coastal areas will have the highest risk for roads becoming impassible as waves pound the shoreline.
Offshore waves will reach heights of 15-20 feet, creating extremely dangerous waters for boaters.
Winds of 40-60 mph will lash coastal areas in this zone. The high winds could down trees and power lines.
