Hurricane Conditions Possible in Cancun, Mexico Sunday As Ida Passes

Ida is forecast to become a Hurricane Sunday as it passes very near Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Ida quickly gained strength early Saturday after it emerged north of Honduras into the western Caribbean. Atmospheric conditions are favorable for Ida to continue to strengthen through Sunday.

Ida is expected to pass just east of the resort cities of Cancun and Cozumel Sunday afternoon. It may be close enough to bring hurricane force winds. Heavy rain fall is likely. In fact, pouring rain started to fall across Cancun early Saturday. Flooding is likely.

Western Cuba will also get hit hard as Ida passes. Hurricane Conditions are possible across the western tip of the Island nation. Havana, Cuba should not experience hurricane conditions. But, flooding is a big concern for Cuba's Capital.

After affecting Cancun and western Cuba Ida will enter the southern Gulf of Mexico. It is not early what will happen to Ida afterwards. It will experience colder water and increases wind shear. So, it will probably weaken. Residents on the central and eastern Gulf Coast should pay close attention to the latest updates on Ida.

Who Has the Rain? - Seattle, Wash., has had over 5 inches of rain this month. Astoria, Ore., right on the coast, has received over 10 inches thus far. This in marked contrast to what has fallen farther south. San Francisco has had a mere 0.01 of an inch which is very unusual for that location. In Los Angeles, there hasn't been a drop of rain since Oct. 16! Persistent high pressure over the intermountain region has blocked Pacific storms from coming into California with the main storm track directed at the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. That section of western North America has been subjected to a bunch of storms in recent weeks. More
