Tandem storms, one of them by the name of Ida, will instigate a shot of torrential, tropically inspired rain along the Gulf coast beginning Sunday night and Monday morning. This heavy rain will be of keen interest to flood-weary residents of northern Louisiana and southern Arkansas, where some rivers and lakes have held at major flood stage as of Saturday. But the latest information says "near miss" with respect to any widespread heavy rain in the flood-stricken watersheds.
The most likely target for rainfall reaching 2 to locally 4 inches will be south-central and eastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi and Alabama, and the far northwest of Florida. Thus, while the upcoming soaker will have the potential to trigger some flooding of its own, the path of the heavy rain would be far enough to the south and east to spare the hard-hit Ouachita and other lower Red River tributaries.
