Latest Northwest Snow Map

Last update: November 6, 2009 - 2:25 PM

Rain and mountain snow started falling across the Northwest on Thursday and does not want to let up. A storm churning over the Gulf of Alaska will continue to send moisture onshore, causing the wet weather to persist into Saturday night.

The above graphic displays how much snow is expected to accumulate tonight into Saturday. One to 2 feet (30-60 cm) of new snow will further bury most of the Cascades and the coastal mountains of British Columbia. Additional snow Saturday night will add to these totals.

Snow levels started quite high when the wet weather arrived on Thursday.

Tonight into Saturday, snow levels will range from 1,500 feet (450 m) in central British Columbia to 3,000 feet in the Washington Cascades and 4,000 feet in the Oregon Cascades. These snow levels should fall even more Saturday night. Travelers through the region's passes, including I-90's Snoqualmie Pass, should prepare for treacherous conditions and potential delays.

Traveler's Outlook for Wednesday - The big weather item for holiday travelers on Wednesday, one of the busiest travel days of the year, will be a turn to much colder weather and snow showers across the upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes. Any significant snow accumulation should be confined to the normally favored snow belts such as those of northern Michigan; however, reduced visibility in snow showers plus gusting winds could cause some flight delays.
