The low churning in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico is expected to approach the central Gulf Coast late Sunday into Monday, accompanied by torrential rain. At this time, there are indications that the low will drop 2 to 4 inches of rain across the central Gulf Coast. The most likely area encompasses Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Flash flooding will likely ensue, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
The rain may also worsen the flooding situation where rivers are already out of their banks. Flooding continues along many rivers from the central Mississippi Valley to East Texas after an extremely wet October. The low's rain should bypass most of these flood-ravaged areas. Western Louisiana will likely be the exception.
