Ida Leaving Central America

Torrential rain, flooding and gusty winds accompanying Tropical Depression Ida pounded eastern parts of Nicaragua and Honduras from Thursday into today. The Associated Press reports damage to bridges, schools and electrical transmission towers. Luckily, Ida is not being blamed for any deaths.

Conditions have already improved over Nicaragua and will do so over Honduras tonight as Ida emerges back into the Caribbean.

Even with Ida to the north, dry weather will not entirely return to these countries this weekend. Moisture wrapping into Ida's center will first have to pass over Central America. Spotty showers and thunderstorms will result across eastern Nicaragua and Honduras, especially in the higher terrain. Most of the storminess, however, will be confined to the afternoon and evening hours.
