This warm wave will be truly remarkable. Its impact will be felt from the prairies of southern Canada to Texas. In time, the very mild weather will spread all the way to the Eastern Seaboard. Perhaps this is nature's way of making amends for all the cold, stormy weather back in October.
Just saying it's going to be warm may not do the situation justice. In Bismarck, N.D., a place accustomed to experiencing single digits this time of year, the temperature will be in the 60s Friday afternoon, and it will reach 50 as far north as Winnipeg.
The warmth is being caused by a large northward displacement of the jet stream.
Snow lovers need not despair. All too soon the jet stream will shift back south, and colder weather will come with it.
