A big and dynamic storm that dropped snow over the Rockies and central Plains and deluged portions of Texas and the lower Mississippi Valley is shifting eastward today.
The Great Lakes and Northeast will have up to 1-2 inches of rain. With the rain in these areas being steady, rather than quick downpours, no widespread flooding is expected through tonight. However, fallen leaves blocking storm drains may cause flooding in a few areas.
In general, rainfall will not be as heavy as it was over Texas and the lower Mississippi Valley Wednesday into Thursday. However, 0.5 to 1 inch could still fall over a large area of the Southeast today through tonight. A few areas could even receive a couple of inches in just a few hours with locally heavy, severe storms developing in this region. This will not only result in flash flooding that could close some streets, but there could be flooding of homes and businesses along already swollen streams and rivers.
By Saturday, locally severe storms could target the East Coast.
