YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Tropical Storm Ketsana developed just before making landfall in the Philippines early on Saturday. Very heavy rain has fallen across most of the Philippines. Ketsana is now moving west of Luzon, Philippines, across the South China Sea. But heavy rain is still falling across the island nation.
Rainfall over the past day has totaled more than 10 inches in parts of the Philippines. Diliman has received 17 inches of rain since Friday. Tanay was soaked with 16 inches. Manila received 9.17 inches in a 30-hour period.
Record rainfall was reported in Manila. According to the government meteorology service, the 24 hour rainfall record was broken when 13 inches fell in just 6 hours.
Ketsana will remain a tropical storm as it moves across the South China Sea and takes aim at Vietnam. It could reach typhoon strength before reaching land.
Heavy rain from such a storm could prove devastating. Vietnam is expected to receive numerous showers and thunderstorms this weekend. These showers and thunderstorms could produce upwards of 5-10 inches of rain in many areas. When combined with additional heavy rain expected from Ketsana, flash flooding and mudslides are possible.
